Food as art...

Busy weekend, basic cooking - nothing terribly blogworthy. We went to a catered graduation party today where the food was spectacular. With the exception of a poached salmon everything was vegetarian. And out of those items, many were vegan.

There was this incredibly beautiful hummus platter (this is definitely worth clicking on to see the larger picture):

And this melon:

Amazing isn't it? There was vegan sushi, a fruit platter that was overflowing, veggies - all kinds of things. I couldn't get a picture of everything though - while my family is used to not eating until a picture has been taken - it's a little bit harder to impose on others!

Oh my goodness, now do I see red onion, carrot and strawberries?!? I had to come back for another look. This is beautiful. Did the catering company make this?

WOW - Gorgeous. At first I thought the humous was a carpet!

well I went through and answered each comment and then got an error - so I'll just make one reply :-) The hummus had flowers made of zucchini, eggplant, yellow squash and beets (and some strawberries), the stems were eggplant peels. Everything was beautifully presented. I would love to do catering in my next life and this was so inspiring. They did a wonderful job!

That hummus platter is beautiful!! What kinds of fruits and veggies made up the flowers? I can see strawberries, banana, cucumber, and red onion. The red orange background must be the hummus, was it sprinkled with a spice? I really want to try making something like that, it's amazing!
