We made it to Berlin and survived the luggage transfer on and off the train. When the taxi dropped us at the station in Hamburg it was on the opposite side of the station from where we'd done our scoping out. But it was better because this side had an elevator. There was a slight glitch with the train (there always is) and it was a different train than what was originally scheduled. So they had to do some shifting of where everyone sat but it all worked out in the end. When we arrived in Berlin we also found an elevator (hooray!) and walked straight out to the taxi queue. The city was set up for the Berlin Marathon the next day but our taxi got us to the hotel with no problems despite all the road closures. He was a super friendly guy and basically gave us a tour as he drove to our hotel.Â
We had a lucky message exchange on instagram with long time friends of ours. Heather and Babac worked together years ago (like, 30 years ago).Â
She'd posted pictures from Berlin so I sent her a message and asked how long they would be there. It turns out we had one evening of overlap! It was so fun to catch up. They are on their way to Prague now. Safe travels Heather and Rich!
We just walked around a bit after and then got a taxi back to our hotel so that we could rest up for the next day. It's a beautiful city.
