I've fallen a little behind so this will be a Munich catch up. We've been here the last few days - tomorrow we head to Innsbruck. Like Berlin, we think we need to come back here - a few times if necessary, just to see the things we'd like to see. There is so much to see.
Our first day we walked around our neighborhood then took the train to Marienplatz, the central square. We enjoyed strolling around the shops and people watching. Even though we weren't near the festival there were plenty of people who had been or who were on their way. It's quite charming to see people - young and old - dressed in traditional clothing.
On Wednesday we went to Oktoberfest. We'd heard from some friends who were going to be in Munich at the same time and had plans to meet up with them in the afternoon. Everything we'd read recommended not taking the train to the closest station but to get off at one of the surrounding stations so we did that. We kind of came in the back of the festival and there were no crowds and no problems (also no metal detectors - a nice change).
We'd made plans to meet our friends John and Nancy in front of the Paulaner tent at 2pm. Well it turns out that there are two Paulaner tents - even though we asked one of the waiters if there was more than one and he said no. So it took us awhile but we finally found them. They'd moved from Lafayette to North Carolina a few years ago and we haven't seen them since then. They bring the fun wherever they go and this was no exception.Â
We had dinner at a nice Indian restaurant not far from our hotel and called it a night.
Today we had some things to take care of - getting more passport sized photos for our paperwork when we get to Italy, some copies of other papers, etc. Then we hopped on the train and headed to the museum. We decided to just pick one museum rather than trying to rush through several. We went to the Alte Pinakothek museum and it was a great choice. So many amazing works of art and the building itself was stunning. Tonight was laundry night - so exciting. I'll end with some of my favorites from the museum today
