I have been wanting to update on here for weeks! It has been a busy month and a half. We got the keys to our apartment on November 15th. Luckily the owner left a bit of furniture - a bedroom set (with a new mattress), a couple of armchairs, a table. She asked if we could use a desk and had it brought to the apartment along with some shelves. So all that was great - but it's a big apartment and all we have are the two suitcases each that we showed up with. The day we got the keys we walked into centro and bought bedding, a couple of bath towels, a moka pot for coffee and we stayed the night that first night. We were pretty tired of the temporary rental so even nearly empty this place felt awesome.
We've hit up the antique fairs, antique shops, local furniture stores and yes, even Amazon. We now have a couch! We ordered a couple of rugs from a store in Sweden and they were better than we'd hoped for.
I don't think we've ever started from so few possessions. I remember when I got my first apartment - at least then you got some hand-me- downs from various family members. The old dishes, the towels in the back of the closet that were too good for the rag pile but so old nobody used them anymore, maybe a piece of furniture or two. Of course it's fun to shop but when you're doing everything on foot it's a little tricky. Most of the antique shops and even the vendors at the antique fair are pretty good about delivering. So very slowly we are furnishing this place.
We woke up to a little bit of snow a few days ago
and then today it was 73 degrees!
It is very Christmasy everywhere and it's very fun to just walk around and take in all the lights and decorations.
Tomorrow we are driving to Milan to pick Hallie up from the airport. We'll spend Christmas here then on the 26th then we are driving up to a small town in the mountains to spend a few nights (and meet Luca's parents). Mountain driving here we come!
We miss everyone and send Christmas greetings to all.
