The days have been going by quickly. We've been here 4 weeks as of today. A year ago we left Lafayette and headed to Vancouver. Everything we owned at that point was in this small cargo trailer.
We spent our last two weeks in Lafayette last year staying at the home of our friends Buffie and Steve who lived around the block from us. They were going to be out of town and made us the offer to stay. We were so lucky! Then Romy threw up in the house on the first day. On the white wool carpet. Earlier that year I'd had to send Buffie a very difficult text - she was scheduled for knee surgery in a week and had been waiting months for that surgery date. We saw each other, along with another friend, for a little catch up over wine and cheese. I tested positive for covid about five days later. I was so worried I would have given it to her and that she wouldn't be able to have her surgery. All was well in the end, no positive covid test for her. Sending a text to give her a heads up that her neighbor might see us entering the house with a rug doctor machine was even harder! She was as gracious as ever and all was well in the end. Never a dull moment.
So much has changed in a year!
We have applied for an apartment and have our fingers crossed but these things move quickly and we are kind of from out of town, so not someone's first choice. But we shall see.
We continue to walk miles and miles a day. There is a very efficient bus system but walking everywhere really helps us get to know each neighborhood - and how they relate to each other - much better. I feel like I have a much better grasp of the layout here than I ever did in Vancouver - that never made any sense to me.
I will try to do some catching up on here in the coming days!
