We drove from Fargo to Duluth and again - beautiful landscapes. So much green. And they are absolutely not kidding about Minnesota being the land of 10,000 lakes. Everywhere you look there is yet another lake, each one beautiful.Â
We had lunch in Brainerd, because, you know, Marge. It was a lovely little restaurant called Sage on Laurel and the food was so good. It was nice to have a shorter drive day and we got to Duluth by late afternoon. It is definitely the summer of infrastructure as everywhere you go there are huge roadwork projects. Duluth was no exception and we dodged the cones, endured the slow traffic, and made it to our room at Endion Station Inn. It's an interesting property right on Lake Superior. The building is a former train station that was moved to its current location in Canal Park. My cousin and his wife, both local Duluthians, said it had been a bar before its current incarnation as a hotel. It kind of shows! It was a great location and we had a nice stay but it felt a little like when you go home with a friend from college and have to sleep in their brother's old bedroom.Â
But that lake. Wow. It makes Tahoe look diminutive. It really is the superior lake!!
We got to watch the lift bridge. They sound an alarm and anyone walking on the bridge has to run off before they lift the whole middle section to allow boats to go underneath.
We met up with my cousin Rich and his wife Sue. We had a fun night out with them exchanging great family stories (cheers Virgil!) and seeing the local sights.Â
