Second full day in Montreal. We spent the morning out walking under blue skies and then had lunch while watching the storm clouds roll in. We just made it back to the hotel before it started pouring. Thunder, lightning - the whole works.Â
If there is one thing we've realized about Montreal - it is definitely a food town. Every meal we have had here has been excellent. Don't get me wrong - we've had some pretty good food along the way. But this is at a whole other level. We've had Asian fusion, Mexican fusion, classic French. Babac finally had poutine (I can't help but remember that classic Modern Family scene when Cam tries serving poutine to Jay). I tried the poutine and just felt sort of meh about it. Not to yuck anyone's yum but I'm just not a huge potato fan in general. So dousing the one form of potatoes I don't mind (fries) with gravy, well, it just isn't my thing. But IÂ think the one he had was a very good representation of the dish.Â
Last night while we were having dinner we noticed people stopping frequently and taking a picture of the restaurant across the street. Over and over, they would stop, smile, and snap a picture. I looked up the restaurant and it sounded good so we made reservations for tonight. The restaurant is called Escondite and there are several locations in Montreal. As we were sitting there tonight I realized what everyone was stopping to photograph -  a neon sign that said "send nudes and tacos." We opted for just the tacos. Also, some ceviche and their gyoza nachos. Oh, and the blood orange-tamarind margarita. Excelente. We left our hotel early for our 7pm reservation thinking we would just walk for an hour or so. And then once again we felt the raindrops. So we headed toward the restaurant and luckily they were able to seat us early - just as the sky unleashed. There have been some pretty impressive storms.
We had a wonderful time in both Toronto and Montreal. Canada is a fabulous place to visit. Tomorrow we head back across the border!
