Today was a long drive - from the border town of Sault Ste. Marie to Toronto. It was a pretty drive but the scenery wasn't as dramatic as we've had the past few days. It was uneventful (for us, not so much for the two cars that collided outside the gas station) and we got to Toronto around 6pm as we'd planned.
But then it took us about an hour to get to our hotel. The city was completely gridlocked. Turns out we arrived right as a Toronto Blue Jays game let out. Timing is everything I guess.Â
It was bittersweet pulling into Toronto. We were last here about five years ago for the wedding of a dear friend. The wedding took place in nearby Hamilton and it was one of those joyous occasions that leaves you feeling like all is right in the world. It was truly one of the best weddings we'd ever been to. The bride and groom's first dance was a blast from the 80s. Toasts were made, tears were shed. Â
About a year later the bride was diagnosed with glioblastoma. About six months after that, she was gone. Just like that. So coming here has stirred up a lot of memories. We'd had clear weather all day until we hit Toronto where it rained pretty hard. As we neared our exit, I got what I would like to think of as a little greeting from my friend Pip.Â
Our hotel for the next two nights is in a beautiful building that at one time was a bank. We are happy to have two nights in one spot!
Tomorrow we will just wander the city and enjoy having our feet on the sidewalk instead of our butts in the car!
