As of today we've been on the road (and sea) for a month. A year ago today was our last night in our house in Lafayette. So much has happened in that year. We are really missing this guy - he put up with so much. That last night was just each of us on repeat "I think we're almost done." We weren't. But we had the superhero team of Mike and Carol who showed up in the morning and said "you're good." There's a dish brush on the living floor - I think that kind of sums up the chaos of leaving a house after 24 years.Â
We made it to Hamburg today - the end of our journey on the ship. We thought yesterday might not feel like a full day since we had to pack and prepare to disembark but it really didn't take us long. They asked us to have our luggage outside our door between 5-11pm and our debarkation time was assigned 9:20 am. We kept back our computer bag and a small bag for our evening clothes since it was another gala evening. We weren't sure whether we would enjoy those nights but it was actually a lot of fun so we dressed up one more time.Â
We had our last dinner on the ship and then headed to the show. I'd heard them rehearsing during the day when we walked by the theater and could hear songs from The Greatest Showman. I was sold. It was a great performance and we headed back to our room, prepared to get off the ship in the morning. We were in the North Sea at this point and the waters were not calm. At all. We went to bed and the ship was rocking and swaying and I just couldn't sleep. It was the first rough night (out of nine, so not so bad). We were awakened at 6:45 am by an all ship announcement by the captain. We were supposed to have docked in the middle of the night but the weather was so bad that the port of Hamburg was closed and the ship had just been circling until the port opened again. They said that our delay was about seven hours and that they would give updates later. For us it didn't really matter since we are staying in Hamburg a few days but I'm sure it messed up the plans of a few people. We eventually got off the ship at 3:45pm. In the end it gave us another day on board and we were able to have one last fabulous lunch - not so bad.Â
We walked a bit and found a place for dinner (after a long nap). We are looking forward to exploring tomorrow.
