Posting yesterday about our last night in our house made me think about the day we drove off - a year ago today. We had to pack up our computers (three monitors), printer and every random thing we thought we might need. As we drove off the painters swooped in and started working to get the house ready for staging. Because we have such great friends we weren't headed off to a hotel, instead we were headed to Mitch and Kelly's lake house. Knowing we were headed to a peaceful home on Lake Almanor made those last few weeks easier. Downsizing and moving is hard work. I drove with Romy and Babac drove separately in his car.
That dog just rolled with it. Every change we made he just accepted that today his bowl was over here and his bed was over there and no, he couldn't get on the couch. It poured down rain on the way and when we arrived we built a fire and toasted with a little Robert Hall. It was a big exhale and we felt so lucky.
But here we are now in Hamburg. We started with the usual quest - coffee. We found what looked to be a popular place and stepped into line. Well worth the wait as the owner was charming and gracious and the coffee exceptional.
From there we just wandered. It was a warm day with rain in the forecast for the late afternoon.Â
We saw plenty of places to stop for lunch but ended up at a random place that had zero tourists. We didn't want to have too much so we ordered their cheese with bread rather than a meal. My god. It was enough for a dinner party. We just walked and walked until the raindrops started falling. It's far prettier than we had imagined, being a port city and all. We have another full day tomorrow.Â
